Skincare Tips
First, the use of a retinoid should not be overlooked. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A and can aid in unclogging your pores, clearing your face of acne, getting rid of or lightening freckles, and improving the overall health of your skin. Be warned that during the early stages of using a retinoid you might experience dryness in your skin. To combat this, start off applying very small amounts of the retinoid and you will begin to a see a positive difference in your skin in no time. Something that that people don't necessarily know is that a more complex skincare regimen does not mean you are doing what is better for your skin. Often times when you use a variety of different products they begin conflict with each other and they are not able to do what they are intended to do. In this case more is not better. Keep it simple, a moisturizer, sunscreen, a retinoid, and a cleanser should be all you need for healthy skin.
The next tip is more of a lifestyle choice than anything. Don't smoke. Smoking leads to your skin aging poorly and it affects your overall health as well as your skin. You don't want to be forty years old and suffering from shortness of breath while having a wrinkled face. Quit smoking as soon as possible in order to keep your skin looking healthy, or don't begin smoking in the first place.
Sunscreen can't be forgotten. UV rays are a nuisance to your skin and in the worst case scenario can lead to skin cancer. UV rays will make your skin wrinkle and can make your skin rough. It's important to apply sunscreen when you'll be out in the sun in order to protect your skin from the negative effects of UV rays. Sunscreen is especially important between the hours of 10am and 4pm, this is when the UV rays of the sun are their strongest.
The last tip is important, moisturize. The usefulness of a moisturizer can't be overstated. Using a moisturizer stops your skin from drying out and helps you keep the moisture trapped in your skin. The best time to moisturize is after getting out of the shower or bath. Dry off by dabbing yourself with your towel, you don't want to rub harshly and dry off completely. The idea is to keep some moisture on your skin and then use the moisturizer to trap it in. Not every moisturizer is right for every skin type, try a few until you find the moisturizer that works best for you.
Proper skincare is a full-time job. If you stay on top of it and go through your skincare regimen on a daily basis you will have healthy looking skin for years to come.
